1. Where should I upload my files to?

All of your files/folders get uploaded to the 'www' or 'public_html' directory.

Both the 'www' or 'public_html' folders are accessable with a third party FTP software client your 'File Manager' icon in your control panel.

 

2. How do I edit my website using a sitebuilder?

Some hosting ccompanies will actualy have multiple sitebuilders within their hosting service, such as RVsiteBuilder, Plesk or SiteReptile.

All sitebuilders are simple to use, if you run into any trouble video tutorials are available and remember you also have the host's support via phone, email or live chat.

3. How do I transfer my domain name from my old host to my new host?

Most domain registrars allow you to transfer domain names from one host to another very easily. To transfer your domain from your old host to your new host you will need the new name servers from your new host.

If you just signed up to InMotion Hosting or a similar host look for an email from them that contains all your registration details and your DNS settings should be there. Remember, a domain name server (DNS) will look something like this: ns1.YOURNEWHOSTSDOMAIN.com You can also login to your new host to find name servers, or simply get on live chat support with them.

4. What is an addon domain?

Addon domains are domains that have been purchased and added as extra domains to your hosting account. Even though most hosting account will have a 'main domain', when you add a 2nd, 3rd or 4th+ domain it will also appear as a stand alone domain and not a sub-domain. The new addon domain is simply directing to a folder in your 'www' or 'public_html' hosting account which you connect the host's name servers to.

5. How do I cancel my hosting account ?

All hosting companies allow anybody to cancel their account anytime.

The best way to cancel a hosting account with any company is by contacting them directly via email, phone or even live chat.

They will usually ask for some kind of verification via email (last 4 digits of credit card) and ask you to make a backup of all your files and folders.

 

6. If I cancel my hosting account can I get a refund?

Each hosting company seems to be a little different in this area. Some will offer a 30 day money back guarantee, some offer a 45 day money back guarantee and some even have an 'Anytime' money back guarantee. The 30 or 45 day refund policies speak for themselves basically, meaning you can simply get a refund within those amount of days since your initial purchase. After the number of days is up, then a refund request cannot be made.

The 'Anytime' refund policy usually means that the hosting company will give you a refund at anytime you wish, but it will be a refund for the remainder of your term. So if you chose a 12 month plan and you've used up 7 months of that, they will refund you for the remaining 5 months.

7. What is the best way to get support if I have a technical problem?

If you run into a technical problem with your hosting account all 8 hosting companies usually provide great support.

It could be something as small as logging-in to your account, or something advanced such as installing certain scripts or adjusting a database.

Simply look for anything on your host's main website that has to do with phone support, email support, or even live chat support. If there is a major problem with your website and you need assistance immediately, live chat support should be your first choice.

 

8. What is a Parked Domain?

A parked domain is simply a domain that is pointing to nothing. This usually happens instantly after you have just puchased a new domain as well.

A parked domain is usually just a blank page promoting the host or domain registrar, or it will have assorted ads on the page as well.
